Update on the Prince

I tried to come up with a catchy title but I drew a blank.

All is well. His speech has improved and he now has a vocabulary of a standared 3 year old. The little boy who gave us no hope has come full circle in the speech department. I really owe it all to his speech teacher, if I ever come upon large amounts of cash that lady will be gettin some ;)

Prince was recently diagnosed with Sendory Processing Disorder, we knew he had sensory issues but I was not away that there was something to diagnose it as. He has come along way but he still has a long way to go. May of 09 I pulled him out of a center where he recieved therapy because they did not work on his social issues. Now he goes to a place that he actually likes going to and he seems to be doing well.
We have started Therapeutic Listening and he seems to be doing really well with it. If I get him to listen first thing after he wakes for his speech is a bit better, no the mumbo jumbo he used to give me. He also likes to take it with us in the stores. It takes his mind off of what is really going on around him. He really seems to like it.
We have days and times where I would love to tell you that there is no issue in my home. Where my kids are perfect in every way, then the littlest thing goes wrong and we have a melt down for hours. Yes, I said hours. Sometimes it is about the simplest thing and others not so much. I want more then anything to try to understand my son. To be able to be on his level in the slighest way. I have started reading The Out of Sync Child, I am not to far into the book yet, I am not a reader, but there are already things that help me out. I can not say that I will every be able to understand my son, but I can vow to try.

I knew this deployment would be really hard for Prince, he is really close to his dad. I have to say that I am really proud of him. We started getting him mentally ready a month ago. We wanted him to know and understand that Daddy was not leaving for good, that he was going to come back. SD, decided to tell Prince that he was going to go fight pirates, clever huh? So now my little boy tells everyone his daddy is gone fighting pirates. While it really bothers me, I have to add that he is in the Navy, it helps me to know this is how my son is getting through this.

As we travel back and forth for his appts I am happy that he is getting therapy, I am happy that we will most likely be able to have him in a private school when the time comes, I am happy that we have been given hope. I am thankful that he will not slip through the cracks.
